Abstract: The human beings, differently of all others species, do not have only the challenge to adapt themselves in the world in which they inhabit. They also have as an indispensable challenge to establish themselves in the world, understand this world, explain and make sense to this world in order to feel secure inside it. Among this existential challenge, into the construction of their cultural universe, the human beings ever constructed myths and religions at the side of the same cultural universe. So, likely in the narrative of the origins, god created the men from the “primordial mud”, the myth and religion were constructed with the mud of the culture linked to a determined social group, which search to organize themselves collectively in the perspective of the inter-individual relationship. In this way, myth and religion start to be a part of the social relations strengthening the moral values which are transformed into institutional parameters. In this perspective, this essay aims to propose a critical reflection on the relationship between myth and religion, facilitating, through a simple and direct language, the understanding that these are forms of human manifestation that are part of the social structure and organization. Even because religious institutions support the myths, and the myths are sustained from a religious perspective. And, both yesterday and today, both systems are co-opted by the socio-politic-economic in order to sustain a world view and a form of social organization. Moreover, we are challenged to think about this movement in a dialectical perspective, as something that concerns the human beings historically situated and challenged by their conditions for survival, for others and for nature, seeking to organize a “safe place” to live.
