Abstract

Bodies are sacred temples in which God manifests the Divine Self. Queer bodies and relationships reveal the face of the Queer God. The term emerged in the 20th century as a result of the experience of concrete existences and also of the demands of homosexual, bisexual and transgender people who were involved in counter-cultural movements engaged in contesting hegemonic identities. Queer implies plurality. Through the contemplation of creation, we are drawn analogically toward the Creator. Likewise, in beholding queer bodies and relationships, we behold the queer face of God. This vision challenges the hetero-cisnormative idol that seeks to tame, silence, and violate dissident bodies. The Queer God makes a covenant with all of humanity, including queer bodies. In the incarnation of the Son, this covenant is fulfilled.
