This paper aims to examine closely the emergence of the question of meaning in human existence and, particularly, in a Christian’s life. Based on the anthropological thought of several authors – P. Beauchamp, P. Ricoeur, E. Lévinas, L. Ladaria, M. de Certeau, J. L. Segundo, among others –, the intention of these pages is not to define the content of this meaning (the answer to the question), but to investigate the conditions, processes and effects that this question brings about for a concrete personal existence. Through this indirect approach, the purpose is not only to diagnose the way in which meaning is currently sought, but also to offer alternatives for this search, with foundations rooted in Christian theology.
