An important question about pain debated in the Philosophy of Mind concerns whether or not it can be considered a natural kind. In this article, three views within this debate will be analyzed: that of Jeniffer Corns, who argues it cannot, due to the complexity and idiosyncrasy of pain; that of Daniel Dennett, who argues it can, based on brain function; and the representationalism of Cutter and Tye, which supports pain as a natural kind by considering interoception. Finally, a defense of representationalism will be presented.
