Abstract

This article consists of a philosophical investigation of the novel Oblomov, published by Ivan Goncharov in 1859 Russia, and its reception in the hands of Nikolay Dobrolyubov. His literary criticism “What is oblomovism?” was central to the revolutionary movement that gained more and more extreme shades. This research will present and develop the concept of “ideal” from Hegel's philosophy of art, in order to demonstrate its centrality to the understanding of the novel as well as to the notion of oblomovism.
