Abstract: Martin Heidegger employs the expression safekeeping of being in the truth in his so-called hermeneutics of facticity. Despite occasional references and analyses, which develop it in favor of other subjects, such topic is, generally speaking, underdeveloped by the secondary literature. The article suggests that the clarification of safekeeping and similar concepts not only represents an inevitable task, considering their constancy in Heidegger’s works, but that such investigation relates to the kernel of the question of the meaning of being. The analysis begins with an examination of the safekeeping of being in the Natorp Report and proceeds to an indication of continuities, ruptures with, and reformulations of his 1930s account of guard.
Keywords: Facticity. Ontological pluralism. Fundamental attunement. Machination. Appropriating event.
