The article explores the inventio of a Trinitarian ontology by the Church Fathers, with a focus on the Council of Nicaea in 325 and subsequent ecumenical councils. Such a Trinitarian ontology, deeply rooted in Christian Revelation, made it possible to overcome the aporias of classical metaphysics, particularly concerning the relationship between the divine being and the created world, and the nature of the relationship itself. In the passage from the Apologists to Origen, through the subsequent Arian crisis and the re-reading of Athanasius by the Cappadocians, we see the transition from the position of Arius, for whom the Logos was a mere creature whose existence would be functional to the relationship between distinct substances, God and the world, to the introduction of a new principle of individuation based on the relationship and outlining a new ontology, adverbial and prepositional, because it is relational.
