In light of the discussions sparked in 2025 on the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and the coincidence of the celebration of Easter on the same date by the Western and Eastern Churches in that year, the proposal to permanently reunify the date of Easter among the different Christian denominations was revived. This article seeks to understand the roots of this desire in the definitions of the Council of Nicaea and find insights from them to illuminate the current debate. The challenges to achieving such an endeavor are immense, but criteria found in the Nicene sources point towards the demand for unity and the need to take practical steps.
KEYWORDS: Council of Nicaea. Easter. Ecumenism. Christian Unity.
